CREATE CONTOURS.

Ii is really simple to create a 3D contours in revit. The only important thing is that it have to be a 3d cad data.
Every contour should have elevation. First image is of Autocad plan and second image is in elevation.

Now u just have to import the file to revit and follow the procedure in following images.

Go to Massing & Site Tab>Create From Import>select proper layer>Hit ok and its ready.

Now u can add building pad to toposurface as per your requirements. Basically it is decided as per slope as try to have minimum excavation or as per design inputs. 

LINK CAD

Today one of my office colleague was struggling with LINK CAD file visibility. It don't have an option to bring the cad drawing  to front over the revit model once it is selected (shown in below fig.).

                                                                       

                                                                           

  This happens because we forget to check the tick mark at "CURRENT VIEW ONLY" box. The best practice is always keep it tick so the cad file is only visible to current view. It saves a lot time, else u have to off all the cad file every time in every view.                                                                              

CUSTOM LINE TYPE IN FAMILY.

Hello friends good afternoon. One of my friend ask me "how to add a custom line type in family editor".
Its not a same that we usually do in any project, because the option to line style is deactivated in family editor. For your reference I am attaching images of DOOR family.
Go to
View tab>Visibility graphics>Object styles>Modify subcategories>NEW

U CAN CHANGE THE LINE PROPERTIES AS PER YOUR REQUIREMENTS.

DIMENSIONING

         One of my friend gave me this awesome dimension idea. its really time saving  and helpful.
When u want to gave dimension to grids & there are multiple grids u can use this method.
Dimensioning to wall openings and wall intersections also become easy. For your reference I am attaching following image so u will get clear ideas about the method. Thanks to Nilam for such a great trick.

VIEW RANGE IN FAMILY EDITOR.

First happy Holi to all. Since last many days I am struggling with the 'View range' setting in family editor.

its really important to understand the cutting range on any family. You can easily found it in property drop down list. I am attaching an image for your reference.

Stair by component(revit 2014)

Now you don't have to create a filled region, Just simply use stair by component option. I here attached an image for your reference. You can just add no. from annotation tab(revit 2014) to count risers and treads by using stair by component option. Saves your lots of time  and repetitive work. Following image is from revit 2011,which shows a gap between landing and waist slab.
